About Jenin and the Jenin Creative Cultural Center

The city of Jenin

Jenin

Jenin is a city in the northern West Bank with a population of approximately 39,000. It is the third largest city in the West Bank and its major industry is agriculture. Trefor Lloyd, who recently researched autism in Jenin noted that “many of the programs we take for granted [in Britain] are absent [in Jenin] and the West Bank does not have the infrastructure to support youth projects and community initiatives.”

The Jenin Creative Cultural Center

The Jenin Creative Cultural Center has a mission to use art to foster peace in the Palestinian territories and does so through community youth programming. “The center prides itself on being open to all people regardless of their sex, color, or religion and the center is not affiliated with any political party or movement,” Trefor Lloyd said. In addition to art programs, the center works with international volunteers to provide language classes, computer classes and theater and dance projects. The center will host The Jenin Autism Project and will provide the space that will be utilized for the cooperative.
